Opiliones

With more than 6,500 species distributed worldwide, Opiliones comprises the third largest group of arachnids after Acari and Araneae. They are commonly called harvestmen or daddy long legs. In Central America, the most commonly encountered groups of harvestmen include Cosmetidae (Laniatores) and Gagrellinae (Eupnoi, Sclerosomatidae). Harvestmen are extremely diverse in Central America, but a lack of focal sampling in many areas prevents us from fully understanding their true diversity here. For example, in Costa Rica there are more than 100 species of Laniatores, but in Nicaragua there are only two known species and in Honduras only six.
