Elaps diastema michoacanensis Dugès, 1891 b
As stated by Smith & Necker (1943), the original specimen that was described and illustrated in color (Dugès 1891b:487–88 + plate 32) has not been found. However, the neotype (HE 1) they designated still is at the MADUG (Fig. 8 C). A detailed description of this specimen is given in Smith & Necker (1943), and the specimen remains in good condition. It is worth pointing out that the neotype was the same specimen Dugès used in latter publications (1896a, 1901) to elevate this taxon to the species category.
Current valid name: Micrurus distans michoacanensis (Dugès, 1891) .
