Lectotype: RMNH 2379, 1 ad. Ψ. Loc.: Espagne. Leg.: C. W. Michahelles. Remarks. The lectotype was designated by Hoogmoed (1978: 103). The type locality given by Micha- helles (1830: 191) is “ Chiclana in Südspanien ” and “ Hispania meridionali ” (column 195), restricted to “ Chiclana, southern Spain ” by Hoogmoed (1978: 103). This specimen is also the holotype of Salamandra pleurodeles Temminck & Schlegel, 1838.
