Distribution and habitat. Panopa carvalhoi is endemic to northern Amazonia, between the upper Orinoco River, in Venezuela, and the Branco River, on both sides, in Brazil (state of Roraima) (Fig. 1). It is semi-arboreal and diurnal, inhabits primary and secondary, relatively low (canopy 20 – 25 m high), terra firme forest, where it is found on tree trunks, primarily palms, and on fallen vegetation, at least up to two meters above ground (O’Shea 1989 — identified as Mabuya sp. nov.; Rebouças-Spieker & Vanzolini 1990; Ávila-Pires 1995; Vitt & Zani 1998).
