Distribution and habitat. Amapasaurus tetradactylus is endemic to northern Amazonia (eastern portion of the Guiana region), occurring in Brazil (Fig. 3), French Guiana (Dewynter & Surugue 2012) and Suriname (Jairam & Jairam-Doerga 2015). In Brazil, it is known from the states of Amapá and Pará. Amapasaurus tetradactylus is terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits primary terra firme forest, where it is found among the leaf litter (Cunha 1970; Dewynter & Surugue 2012; Jairam & Jairam-Doerga 2015). For 34 years A. tetradactylus was only known from the two type specimens (Cunha 1970), but recent collections in poorly studied areas have recovered new specimens (Lima 2008; Ávila-Pires et al. 2010; Dewynter & Surugue 2012; Jairam & Jairam-Doerga 2015).
