Diagnosis. Colony erect, dichotomously branching in one plane, with distinct frontal and abfrontal surfaces. Surface textured, but lacking conspicuous longitudinal ribbing and furrows. Autozooidal peristomes with internal spinules and simple circular apertures lacking apertural spines. Pores and cancelli sparse. Gonozooid frontally borne, simple and sac-like, with short, frontally curving ooeciostome. Ancestrular zooid erect, a pair of daughter zooids budded laterofrontally from its base.

Remarks. Frontohornera n. gen. differs most obviously from Hornera Lamouroux, 1821 in having a frontally borne gonozooid. In all species of Hornera the incubation chamber is borne abfrontally. In Calvetia Borg, 1944, distinct frontal and abfrontal faces are lacking, with zooidal peristomes opening around the entire branch surface.
