Die Tiere werden je nach Art 80 bis 180 µm groß. Sie sind wie die Asplanchnen fußlos. Sie leben planktisch, und am Körper befinden sich vier Bündel von jeweils drei Rumpfflossen. Die Tiere besitzen ein dunkelrotes Gehirnauge.
