ABOUT

Descriptions(2)

Distribution. Brazil (specifically Amazonas and Rio de Janeiro states) has eight Ballophilidae species from the genera Ityphilus Cook, 1899 and Taeniolinum Pocock, 1894 (Bonato et al. 2016). This study is the first to report ballophilid species in Brazilian caves. Most known Brazilian species in this family are from the Amazonian Forest, except Ityphilus bonatoi Pereira, 2013 from the Atlantic Rainforest of Rio de Janeiro. This study presents further records in caves of Para (iron ore), Minas Gerais (iron ore), as well as Goias and Bahia (limestone caves).
