Diagnosis. Members of Actinopus chilikuti sp. nov. are small spiders. Males can be distinguished from all other species with Type I morphology in Argentina by having a copulatory bulb with a more curved embolus (Figs 2 C – F, 4 C), with keels well developed (similar to A. reycali) and PA developed (smaller in A. reycali, and A. clavero but bigger in A. septemtrionalis, Fig 4). Females can be differentiated from A. reycali and A. septemtrionalis by the shorter and more slender spermathecae (Fig 3 D, similar to A. clavero). It is distinguished from A. clavero by a larger number of retrolateral thorns on tibia II (30 vs 20, Fig 3 G) and fewer on tibia I (0 vs 5).

Etymology. The specific epithet works as a noun in apposition referring to the small size of the specimens of this species. In Quechua Aymara (very commonly spoken in Santiago del Estero), ch’ilikuti means “ little, small ”.

Abstract

A small species of the spider genus Actinopus Perty 1833 from Copo National Park in Argentina is described— Actinopus chilikuti sp. nov. The new species belongs to a small group that in Argentina previously comprised three morphologically homogeneous species. Detailed morphological descriptions of both sexes, illustrations and geographic distribution of the new species are presented.
