ABSTRACT: Systematic and Synonymic List of Amphibians of Uruguay. Thirty nine amphibian species known actually in Uruguay, are listed in this paper. They are grouped in seven families: Typhlonectidae, Bufonidae, Ceratophrydae, Hylidae, Leptodactylidae, Pseudidae and Microhylidae. These families include sixteen genera present in Uruguay. Eight species recorded by some authors as living in Uruguay, are not included in the list, because there is no evidence available about their existence in the country. A synonymic list, some comments and notes on distribution are added. Hyla vauterii Bibron in Bell, 1843, is revalidated, clarifing the taxonomic confusion of Boulenger (1885). The revalidation of Hyla uruguaya Schmidt, 1944 (Langone, 1990) is also supported. Several taxa living in Uruguay need a revision of the taxonomic status, as Bufo paracnemis, Bufo dorbignyi, Bufo fernandezae, Hyla squalirostris, Leptodactylus ocellatus and Physalaemus fernandezae. In the future, the names used in this paper might be changed, due to new research work, investigation of more material and better knownledge of the area where these species are living.
