The checklist consists of species of migratory animals from the fauna of Ukraine protected according to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, also known as the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) or the Bonn Convention. In Ukraine this convention is ratigfied and signed. Therefore, according to the documents accompanying the Agreement, these species should be under relevant protection on the territory of Ukraine.
