Remarks.
The original type material of Antipathes lacerata has not been located and the name remains unassessed. The two specimens listed here may represent original material, as both bear historical labels “ Mus. de Paris ” and the locality “ l’Océan Indien ” cited by Lamarck (1816). Their presence in the RMNH collection may be related to exchanges with the Paris collections in the early nineteenth century, although this cannot be confirmed due to the absence of inventories documenting material returned to Leiden in 1823. One specimen (RMNH.COEL.4921) was observed by Silvia Vicario during a visit in August 2025 and identified as an octocoral species. All specimens were observed by the second author (May 2026) and identified as gorgonian species.
